Sinus infections, also known as sinusitis, are termed as inflammation of one or more sinuses. Sinusitis is caused by an inflammation or infection of one or all of your para-nasal sinuses. Sinus infections can be classified into various classes. Chronic sinusitis, sinusitis which reverts frequently, affects an estimated 32 million people in the United States. Americans spend millions of dollars every year for medications which promise mitigation from their sinus symptoms.

Chronic sinusitis generally lasts for more than 3 weeks and may continue for months or even years. It is commonly due to allergies or bacterial infections. Acute sinusitis is a sinus infection which usually remians for no more than 3 weeks. It is usually triggered by a foregoing flu or head cold.

Subacute sinusitis infection available for more than four but less than eight weeks. Symptoms can be less stern and only include nasal congestion or post-nasal drip. Periodic Sinusitis type of sinusitis occurs when one has several separate attacks during the year.

The attacks are commonly caused by an allergic reaction to changing weather conditions, animal hair, dust mites, mold, pollen etc. Caused by an irritant, allergy or infection (such as the common cold), cloggage of the drainage sites of the sinuses can result to the growth of a sinus infection.

Other causes of chronic sinus infections include structural preternaturalness within the nasal passages and sinuses. Around 20% of patients with chronic sinusitis may develop nasal polyps. Nasal polyps are cyst-like developments that form from sinus tissue.

Symptoms are similar to those of a common cold object that sinusitis symptoms last longer than 3 weeks. Sinusitis is treated by re-organizing drainage of the nasal passages, controlling or eliminating the source of the inflammation, and relieving the pain.

Avoid cigarette smoke, chemical and environmental pollutants. Sinusitis-prone persons can be constrained in swimming pools treated with chlorine, since it irritates the lining of the nose and sinuses. Drink fluids to enhance the body’s moisture content. Avoid deflecting the head down. Use a humidifier to help thin mucous and allow it to slash. Do not drink any caffeine in anything.
